Promoting Democracy, Peace, Equality in Somalia
Perhaps no issues, correctly or incorrectly dominate perception of Somalia by the rest of the international community-in particular in donor countries-as mush perceptions of Somalia being doomed to dictatorship, totalitarian government, anarchy, meaningless or repressive constitutions and impunity.
While it is commonly accepted that higher levels of risk are associated with investing in emerging markets, having a democratic system of governance and the effective administration of justice and rule of law are clearly assets to encourage in private investment and foreign aid.
While Tigaad appears to acknowledge this by having an initiates, it succeed strongly to set goals and process to underscore its commitments to monitor and police performance and participating provinces.
Tigaad's Democracy and governance initiative states that Tigaad" undertakes to respect the global standards of democracy, which core components include political pluralism, allowing for the existence of several political parties and worker's unions, free, fair open and democratic elections periodically organized to enable the people to choose their leaders freely.
The initiates includes
1- Commitments to be made by participating countries to create or consolidate basic governance process and practices.
2- Undertaking by participating civil socoiety to take the lead in supporting initiatives that foster good governance.
3- The instutionalization of commitments to ensure that core values of the initiatives are abided.
